Klaus Mann's debut novel, Der fromme Tanz (»The Pious Dance«, 1926), tells of the dreams, fears and journeys through life of young people in an era characterised by numerous crises and radical changes. They find a place of refuge in the Berlin club scene – where freedom and resistance still seem possible.
By openly dealing with liberal and same-sex love, Mann's work breaks social taboos as one of the first coming-out novels of its time. It takes us to the Weimar Republic, where the sentiments and struggles of a generation against authoritarian currents become a powerful sound of liberation.
Premiere 24. September 2025, Thalia Gaußstraße
