They had long dreamed of it as a family: the move from their Hamburg city apartment to the expanse of the Marschlande should be the beginning of a new phase in their lives. But while Philipp thrives in their new routine, Britta feels increasingly out of place. Then she comes across the name Abelke Bleken. Almost 500 years separate her from the woman who rebelled against the storm tides as well as against the resentment of village society – and came under suspicion. As Britta follows in her footsteps, past and present become intertwined in a web of dependency and freedom. What happens when an ancient shadow falls over one's own life?
